Lungisa
isiXhosa · to make right, to fix what is broken

You want to hire locally. Something keeps getting in the way.

Lungisa is a verified talent platform connecting Cape Town SME employers with capable candidates from township communities, making township talent visible, credible and accessible to employers who currently can't find them.

The Problem

Hiring outside your usual network feels too risky.

Most small businesses in Cape Town want to hire well. Many would prefer to hire from nearby communities. But the systems that should connect employers with candidates are broken, or don't exist at all.

The result is a coordination failure. Employers default to word of mouth and personal networks. Capable candidates in township communities remain invisible, not because they lack capability, but because there is no credible way to demonstrate it. Existing platforms serve people who are already visible enough to find and use them. Lungisa is built for everyone else.

What we hear from employers

  • We'd love to hire locally but we don't know where to find reliable people
  • CVs tell us almost nothing about whether someone will actually show up
  • We've been burned before, a bad hire is expensive and disruptive
  • We don't have time to screen, train and manage someone who doesn't work out
  • If someone I trusted recommended a candidate, I'd give them a chance

"This is not a skills problem or a jobs problem. It is a trust problem. And trust can be built deliberately."

How It Works

We reduce your risk. You get reliable staff.

01

Reach candidates where they already are

Lungisa uses WhatsApp as the primary candidate channel. No app to download, no website to navigate. A conversation that feels familiar and low stakes, not a form to fill in. For someone entering formal employment for the first time, that difference matters. The platform goes to them, rather than asking them to come to it.

02

Make township talent visible

Candidates build a verified profile on the platform, with assessments completed, behaviours demonstrated and references gathered. What was previously invisible becomes credible and searchable.

03

Support candidates once they're in the job

Every candidate is supported through the transition into formal employment, helping them navigate the unwritten rules of the workplace and perform at their best from day one.

04

Economics aligned with outcomes

Employers access the platform through a simple credit model. No upfront commitment, no risk, you only spend credits when you find someone worth meeting.

Where Others Stop

Most platforms get people hired. We help them stay.

Getting someone through the door is only half the problem. For many people entering formal employment for the first time, the first weeks and months are where things go wrong. Unfamiliar expectations, unwritten rules, small misunderstandings that escalate. Without support, early exits are common and costly for everyone.

Lungisa stays close to candidates after placement. Through WhatsApp-based support, candidates can get help navigating real situations as they arise, not after the fact. The goal is not just a successful hire. It is a successful six months.

For employers, this means lower early attrition and less time rehiring. For candidates, it means a genuine pathway, not just an introduction.

Where We Are

Early stage. Deliberately small.

Lungisa is currently looking for 3 to 5 anchor employers in Cape Town, small and medium businesses in hospitality, retail, logistics or services who are open to a better way of hiring.

What we are building toward

  • A verified candidate platform that makes township talent visible and credible to employers
  • Structured assessments that give employers a signal they can trust before they meet anyone
  • Support for candidates navigating formal employment for the first time
  • A simple credit model that means employers only pay for candidates worth meeting

What we ask in return

  • An openness to hiring from outside your usual network
  • Willingness to share honest feedback on what works and what doesn't
  • A few minutes for an initial conversation

A note on where this is going

Lungisa is in its earliest stage. We don't yet have a running service, we have a clear diagnosis of the problem, a model we believe can work, and we are looking for a small number of Cape Town employers willing to help us shape it. The longer-term vision is to build something that makes it easier for any employer in Cape Town to hire confidently from township communities. If this works, it becomes infrastructure, not just a service.

If this sounds like something you'd want to be part of, let's talk.

Initial conversations are informal and exploratory. No commitment required.
